Matt Mehalik of Sustainable Pittsburgh has been working with Simpatico towards organizing and implementing a recycling/composting program for coffee shops in the greater Pittsburgh region. On Friday, January 23, we attended a Sustainability Charrette (simply defined, a group drafts a solution to a problem) hosted by Matt and Champions for Sustainability (C4S). Invited for our topic were Jeff Holmes of Babcor Packaging, Ryan Walsh of Restorative Events (environment freindly consultation), and Carla Castagnero of AgRecycle Inc. (composting). With Matt’s and Sustainable Pittsburgh’s support, we hope to begin releasing information and signing up interested shops as we attempt to make Pittsburgh a greener city.
